World Trade Center of Seattle Wedding | Leanne and Rich

February 2, 2018

Leanne and Rich both travel a lot for work, so when they first got engaged, they knew that they wanted to hire a wedding planner. Rich immediately thought of Kelly, Sweet Pea Events founder, as they knew each other when Kelly was still living in Seattle 10 years ago. Kelly put Rich and I in contact, and I’m so ever thankful.

The first time I met with Leanne and Rich, I just knew we were a great fit and was looking forward to the next several months of planning. Leanne is just the sweetest and Rich has this dry sense of humor that makes such a good partnership. The sweet couple wanted a wedding with a water view with indoor and outdoor spaces, excellent food and a space that will fit well with their 35 person guest count. Leanne and Rich settled on the World Trade Center of Seattle. It’s an affiliate of Bell Harbor and has one of the most incredible views, an outdoor patio. I kept hearing over and over from their guests how delicious the food was!

The bride blows glass and knew that instead of having floral centerpieces she wanted to handmake the centerpieces herself. They fell in love with a deep ocean image of a royal blue color and we used that as their inspiration for their color palette. Royal blue was the focus, with a few touches of white, black and other jewel tones.

The couple had such a sweet ceremony. They wanted to make sure to include some of the people closest to them and involved in Leanne’s parents, Rich’s sons and daughter-in-law, and Leanne’s nieces into the ceremony.

The couple had so much love pouring out of each of them. They are truly one of those couples who you can’t help but have warm fuzzy feelings when you’re around them. The way they look at each other is just this intense love.

Congrats Leanne and Rich! We’re so glad that we were able to be a part of your special day and so excited for you to start your lives together!

Jasmine and Mitchell

January 26, 2018

Jasmine and Mitchell

Within minutes of meeting Jasmine, we learned (and bonded) that we both have a severe love of our home – Dallas, Texas – but also adore our new city of Seattle. With Jasmine and Mitchell having a “destination” wedding in Dallas, but living in Seattle, it made for a perfect fit for our Sweet Pea Events team!

I can’t begin to describe how sweet of a couple Jasmine and Mitchell are. They are two people that you just can’t help smiling with when you’re around them.

Their Elegant Ceremony

Jasmine and Mitchell’s wedding is stunning! It’s on a hot, October day at the beautiful Hotel Crescent Court in the courtyard (where the two had first gotten engaged!) Jasmine and Mitchell looked as if they had just walked off the cover of a magazine. It was a true fairy tale for them – Mitchell’s niece and nephew even refered to Jasmine as “Princess Jasmine!” The ceremony included two beautiful worship songs and an Asian Tea Ceremony.

As the ceremony wrapped up, the couple shared some private time and finished taking sunset photos. Guests were lead upstairs for cocktail hour and light appetizers. Guests were then welcomed to dinner with a gorgeous layout out of beautiful arrangements, lights and a ballroom ambiance.

As we were going over their menu selection during the planning process, what struck me the most is how they had two steak options. Most couples opt to do a beef and either a chicken or fish option. Mitchell explained, that the first time he met Jasmine’s family in Texas, they went out to dinner at a steakhouse. Everyone (including Jasmine’s mom, sister and grandma) all ordered steak. He was baffled by that and loved how Texan it was! They chose to share that custom with their guests.

The Reception

The reception was a PARTY with the Shoe Game, Photobooth, and great dancing! Jasmine and Mitchell wrapped up the night by having a sweet, private moment back in the courtyard where they said “I Do” earlier that day, and “Yes” to a proposal months before. Guest lined the balcony to wave the newlyweds off and send them their best wishes.

Congrats Jasmine and Mitchell! We hope you two have a lifetime of happiness, love and steak!

Amy and Andy: Orcas Island, Washington

January 12, 2018

Amy and Andy

Amy and Andy said “I Do” on Orcas Island overlooking the water and amazing views. They knew they wanted a destination wedding to celebrate with all their family and friends far and near. They knew immediately once seeing the view at Rosario Resort, that Rosario was the venue for them!

The Big Day

The celebrations began on Friday night with a Welcome Party for all 140 guests and just continued the celebrations for the wedding day! The ceremony had such a breath-taking view, that we didn’t want to add too much to take away from this space. So instead we focused on the reception. We covered the ceiling with over 1,000 white Chinese lanterns with hanging vines. It made it feel as if you were underneath the most beautiful clouds.

The couple wanted lots of greenery, with copper and blue accents and some pops of red. The copper was brought in primarily through the copper flatware and used copper Moscow Mule mugs as favors and escort cards. One of my favorite blue details were the agate table numbers. Thatch Floral did a stunning job bringing in the greens and red and making the indoors feel like a outdoor heaven.

Amy and Andy danced the night away overlooking the water! Congrats you two!

Tips for having a Vacation Experience at your Destination Wedding

December 29, 2017

Are you thinking about having a destination wedding? Here’s some of our tips on what to think about:

Welcome Bags

We strongly suggest that you provide welcome bags in all of your guests hotel rooms. Everybody will be traveling far and will be limited on what they can bring in their suitcase. We suggest providing some fun items to keep them comfortable – snacks, water, tissues, chapstick, etc.

Activities

You don’t necessarily need to plan hosted activities for your guests, but include a list of recommended activities for them to do. Research the local area and find some hotspots and favorite restaurants! You and your fiancé can even make a mini trip out of this and just visit all these local hotspots so you know which ones to recommend.

Welcome Dinner/Morning After Brunch

Being that all of your guests are out of town, we strongly encourage (if budget allows) a Welcome Dinner for all of your guests as opposed to a Rehearsal Dinner. This will allow everybody to get to know each other better and since everyone is already there to celebrate you – why not make the most of it?

Communicate Logistics

One hardship we see, is when couples don’t communicate properly to their guests any complicated travel and logistics involved. Is there a ferry involved to get to an island wedding? Is the venue 4 hours from the closest airport? Let your guests know!

Any more destination questions? We’d love to answer your questions in the comments!

Favorite Local Seattle Destination Venues

November 17, 2017

For whatever reason 2017 was the year for local destination weddings for our Seattle office! If you’re wondering what a local destination is, we consider it a venue where we can drive to, but have to stay the night as it’s too long of a drive to drive back after the rehearsal and wedding.

If you’re considering a local destination wedding for your big day, here’s a few of our favorites from this year:

Cave B Estate Winery and Resort
Cave B is located across the mountains right along the gorge. The view of the gorge is breathtaking, the wine is delicious and there’s something for everybody at this winery – even yurts to stay in if that’s your thing!

Seabrook
Seabrook, Washington is right on the coast of Washington. It’s this adorable coastal town that looks like it’s been taken straight out of Stepford. The town is filled with rental homes decorated in the latest beach trends. It’s a quick walk to the beach!

Rosario Resort
Rosario Resort has it’s challenges as far as getting there (mostly the ferry system) but once you arrive, you’ll never want to leave! This resort is located on Orcas Island and it gives you the perfect island feel, just outside of the hustle and bustle of Seattle.

There’s one destination that our team is DYING to work at next year – Roche Harbor on San Juan Island. Hopefully this little gem will be on our 2018 list! Any couples getting married there – let’s talk! 😉

Signing off,
Emily Shannon, Seattle Office

Lauren’s Bridal Luncheon: Dallas, Texas

November 10, 2017

Where to begin?? Since the first meeting with Lauren and Ethan I knew that I would have the best time planning their wedding. And I was exactly right! Lauren, her mom, and myself all cried that Sunday after their big day and immediately wanted to do it all again! Lauren and Ethan wanted their weekend to not only be about their commitment to one another but to celebrate and honor everyone that was there to witness it. Lauren’s mom (momma Kim) threw the sweetest bridal luncheon for Lauren the day before the wedding! It was stunning with beautiful floral, china, and the most amazing chair swags you’ve ever seen! The girls sipped on mimosas, and enjoyed their lunch before heading down to the spa to get their nails and toes ready for the big day!
